Bonaventure Catholic Primary School has been serving the community of Hong Kong for forty-nine years. - Currently there are eight hundred students und the curriculum focus on small class teaching. The Latin original of the school motto, "ubi Humilitas, lbi Sapientia" meaning where there is humility, there is wisdom, originates from the school Patron, St. Bonaventure. The school stresses on cultivating the moral character of the students, earnestly hoping them to be equipped with both knowledge and morality and to seek wisdom with humility and sincerity. Principal Ada Cheung began her tenure fifteen years ago and ever since she was on board she has formulated the school's environment policy and setting up of green facilities. The school has won the Gold Award of Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence which is a commendation for the school for its outstanding works in sustainability.

CHALLENGE

Principal Cheung believes that both education and practice should go hand in hand in promoting environmental protection among students. The most important thing is for the school to set a good example for the students. Over the years, the school has implemented many environmental protection measures with satisfactory results and gained full support from teachers and students, However, if scientific data is available, the school con better understand which measure is of higher efficiency and the analysis can help to further enhance the environmental policy. With the growing trend of digital campus and e-learning, there is an increase in the use of electronic devices and hence the energy consumption. The school is facing the challenge of balancing the electricity consumption and energy saving. The tracking system covers the old and new school wings, which include the server room and elevator. The electricity consumption data has helped the school to pinpoint areas of previously unknown energy wastage. With detailed analysis, the school can then fine-tune the operation for effective deployment of resources. "Through the analysis of the school's energy consumption patterns, we found that the operation of the elevator consumes close to 7% of overall energy consumption. So we mode adjustments to the operating hours of the elevator and has successfully reduced power consumption, " said Principal Cheung. Based on this scientific data, the school can effectively analyze and fine-tune its environmental protection measures.
