FUJIFILM Business Innovation Hong Kong Announces Results of “Made in Hong Kong: A Spark of Imagination” Design Competition

HONG KONG, JUNE 29, 2023 – FUJIFILM Business Innovation Hong Kong (FUJIFILM BI HK) today announced its 2nd Tertiary Student Design Competition 2023 has come to a successful end and the list of winners. The competition invited design students from local tertiary institutions (including degree and non-degree programs) to participate and aimed to provide a platform for young and emerging designers to showcase their talents. The theme for this year's competition was “Made in Hong Kong: A Spark of Imagination”, and participants were encouraged to utilize the powerful six-color print engine, FUJIFILM BI HK’s Revoria™ Press PC1120, to express their creativity with rich and vibrant colors, evoking resonance while combining Hong Kong's unique cultural elements.

To align with the competition's theme, FUJIFILM BI HK has invited Mr. Felix Ip, a renowned local artist known for his internationally acclaimed comic series “Hong Kong Machines” to design the theme art and serve as one of the judges for the competition. The judging panel, consisting of prominent figures from the industry and academia, including Ms. Noletta Chiu, Executive Director and Co-founder of Medialink Group Limited, Ms. Laura Cavanna, Lecturer in the Department of Art and Design of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, Ms. Cherine Wong, Project Manager and Lecturer in the Department of Visual Communication of The Hong Kong Design Institute, Mr. Leo Chan, College Lecturer and Programme Manager of The HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE), and Mr. Raphael Wong, Art Director of FUJIFILM BI HK.

FUJIFILM BI HK hosted the award ceremony today to recognize and applaud the extraordinary creativity exhibited by the participating students. Representatives of the judging panel were also invited to attend the event and provide valuable feedback to the students.

The participants competed in two categories – “Product Packaging Design” and “Product Poster Design”. A panel of experienced graphic communication experts shortlisted 16 students from all the entries for in-person interviews. During the judging process, the entries were evaluated based on criteria such as creativity & innovation, technique & color application, aesthetics, relevance, story idea, and sustainability. The competition resulted in one Champion and three Merit Award winners from each category, as well as one Popularity Award winner across categories voted by fellow students.

The two Champions were awarded to SZETO Wing Yu from The HKU SPACE in the Product Packaging Design category, and WONG Pak Him from The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong in the Product Poster Design category, respectively. Additionally, CHAN Tsoi Ying from The HKU SPACE received both the Popularity Award and the Merit Award in Product Packaging Design. (Please refer to the appendix for full list of winners.)
