From Passive Engagement to Active Problem Solving

2030 is the deadline for the sustainable development agenda put in place by the United Nations. This fast-approaching deadline is a top concern internationally because of what it represents – our collective attempt at building “peace and prosperity for people and the planet now and into the future.”

With less than 10 years to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, meeting this deadline has been made considerably more difficult due to the global pandemic. By making collective efforts and accelerating action, we believe this goal is still attainable.

As one FUJIFILM Group, we are working together to develop more sustainable ways of working and living. Our shift from passive engagement to active problem-solving is realised in our Sustainable Value Plan 2030 which details the targets we have set for ourselves and how we plan on achieving them. By doing our part, we hope to inspire and encourage our employees, partners and other organisations to join us in our journey towards sustainable business.

How are FUJIFILM’s sustainability targets forecasted?

The targets we’ve set in our Sustainable Value Plan (SVP 2030) are established by working backwards. This approach sets an ambitious long-term vision to be achieved as the starting point and focuses on what must be done to achieve it. Results are measured annually to ensure progress towards achieving our SVP 2030 and granular evaluations are carried out to help us improve year on year.

FUJIFILM’s Journey Towards Sustainability

Environment

We intend to significantly reduce our own environmental impact and help enterprises do the same by developing green products and services that meets our customers expectations. In pursuance of carbon neutrality, we have launched the Green Value Products certification programme to rate the environmental performance of our products. This makes it easier for organisations and individuals to embark on their green transformation and make greener choices.

Workstyle

As workstyles continue to diversify, pursuing Digital Transformation (DX) is necessary to create flexible, innovative workplaces that enable individual capabilities and creativity to be demonstrated at any time and at anywhere.

By promoting our own workstyle reforms and strengthening the provision of DX support solution services to become a "business innovation partner" we design workstyles that support customer transformation and make work more meaningful and purposeful for all.

Health

The importance of creating a healthy society is most acutely felt in the post-pandemic world we live in today. Covid-19 has destroyed plenty of the work that had been done towards achieving the UNSDG. For example, more than 4 years of progress in alleviating poverty has been erased by the pandemic pushing 93 million more people into extreme poverty in 2020.

This theme attracts the most interest because it has come to global attention that unmet medical needs are not an isolated problem and has far-reaching consequences. We are working on developing stronger medical infrastructure and health tech that will increase access to quality medical care. We want to make the world a healthier place to live in by contributing to resolving the medical divide and reducing the burden on medical professionals.

Daily Life

The prevalence of digital technologies in our daily lives has made us more connected but somehow more isolated than ever before. The quality and authenticity of communication are changing along with these circumstances. By developing thoughtful digital transformation strategies and innovative products we support and deepen the tangible and intangible aspects of social infrastructure so that people can find fulfilment in life.

  1. Contribute to creating a safe and secure society
  2. Contribute to enriching humanity and relationship between people

Supply Chain

There is a limit to what one can achieve alone. For a sustainable supply chain, we must enlist the help and support of our partners and suppliers to align our priorities of ethics, environmental protection and human rights. With their understanding and cooperation, we can rely on the robust foundation we’ve established for exponential sustainable development that is mutually beneficial for business growth and the environment.

Governance

Under its Corporate Philosophy and Vision upholding an open, fair and clear corporate culture, the FUJIFILM Group is determined to promote sustainable growth and improve its corporate value through sincere and fair business activities and to contribute to the sustainable development of society. To achieve this, corporate governance, which underlies all such efforts, has been confirmed once again as a major issue. We will develop, maintain and continue to strengthen corporate governance through the reinforcement of internal controls and audit systems.
