EcoVadis evaluates companies' ESG policies and initiatives in four categories: Environment, Labour & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. Over 130,000+ companies across 220+ industries and 180+ countries have participated in its assessments. In this year's award, FUJIFILM Business Innovation excelled in two categories: Environment and Sustainable Procurement.

Within the Environment category, FUJIFILM Business Innovation received maximum scores for four of the seven management indicators*1: Endorsement, Measures, Certifications, and Coverage. It was highly rated for its initiatives to address climate change and promote resource circulation, environmental performance of products, and external certifications for environmental responsiveness. FUJIFILM Business Innovation is working on technology development and resource circulation with the aims of responding to climate change and promoting resource circulation through the products. For example, as one facet of the company’s initiatives to address climate change, FUJIFILM Business Innovation has been working to improve the energy efficiency of the products, such as developing the Super EA-Eco toner, which achieves fusing at a temperature approximately 30–35°C lower than conventional toners*2. Also, as part of the company’s initiatives to promote resource circulation, FUJIFILM Business Innovation has been producing remanufactured machines*3 since 2010 that are guaranteed to be of the same quality and reliability as new machines, based on concept that "used products are valuable resources, not waste". In May 2024, FUJIFILM Business Innovation set a new target of "natural resource input ratio of 60% or less by 2030". FUJIFILM Business Innovation will continue to strengthen the company’s efforts to respond to climate change and promote resource circulation by accelerating its initiatives through the production of remanufactured products, the reuse of toner cartridges and waste toner bottles, and the use of recycled plastic and other recycled materials.

In the category of Sustainable Procurement, FUJIFILM Business Innovation received maximum scores in three of the seven management indicators*1: Endorsement, Measures, and Coverage. Its participation in the RBA*4, support for external initiatives related to sustainable procurement, and such initiatives as supplier education and risk assessment were also evaluated. In addition to conducting annual self-assessments on sustainability and information security with its key suppliers in Japan and overseas, FUJIFILM Business Innovation conducts specialised on-site inspections. These involve a dedicated team consisting of members from the administrative, human resources, environment, health and safety, and CSR departments at its production sites conducting on-site inspections and providing guidance on improvements. FUJIFILM Business Innovation will continue to strengthen its collaboration with suppliers to further promote sustainable procurement.

In addition, FUJIFILM Business Innovation recently launched the "Loop to New" initiative and logo to raise awareness of remanufactured products, expressing the ambitions and values that go into remanufactured products. This involves collecting previously used MFPs, refurbishing them, and delivering them back to customers, and working together with them to create a "resource circulation loop" for future generations. These efforts contribute to the wider adoption of remanufactured products. Under the Fujifilm Group's CSR plan "Sustainable Value Plan (SVP2030)," FUJIFILM Business Innovation will continue aiming to become a company that contributes to a sustainable society by strengthening the foundations in its supply chain in terms of the environment, ethics, and human rights.

  • *3These products are assessed for reuse based on the usage history of used MFPs collected from customers, applying predetermined criteria for each machine and component. Worn or depleted parts are replaced, and reusable parts are disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled. The post-assembly inspection process is the same as that for new machines, guaranteeing the same quality and reliability as a brand-new machine.
