Bangkok, 27 November 2024 — FUJIFILM (Thailand) Ltd., a leading total healthcare solution provider, launches a breast cancer screening initiative in rural Thailand. The program offers free breast screenings to 50 women aged 40 and above, using ‘INNOMUSE’, an innovative healthcare solution that combines mammography and ultrasound technology for comprehensive women’s health screening. Through collaboration with Tomograph Co., Ltd., under Sima Corporate, this initiative launched at Prasat Hospital in Surin Province, making advanced screening accessible to women in remote areas. With plans to expand to other remote regions, the program aims to raise awareness about screening importance, supporting medical professionals’ emphasis that early detection is crucial for complete recovery and patients’ return to normal life.
Breast cancer remains a significant health threat for Thai women. According to the Ministry of Public Health, there is an annual incidence rate of approximately 12% in new patients, and in 2023, more than 17,742 new breast cancer cases were reported – an average of 49 diagnoses daily. This high incidence rate is attributed to multiple factors, including genetic predisposition and lifestyle choices. Many Thai women also face significant barriers to accessing screening services at local healthcare facilities, including transportation difficulties, financial constraints, and fear of examination discomfort. These challenges often result in missed opportunities for early detection.
Regular breast cancer screening using both mammogram and ultrasound examination is crucial for successful treatment outcomes. Women aged 40 and above should schedule mammogram examinations one to two times yearly, while those in high-risk categories require strict annual screening. High-risk factors include family history of breast or ovarian cancer, genetic predisposition, chest radiation therapy received before age 30, and extended use of hormone replacement therapy or oral contraceptives beyond five years. Consistent screening enables early detection, which is fundamental for effective treatment and optimal recovery chances.
FUJIFILM initiated its breast cancer screening program at Prasat Hospital in Surin Province, in collaboration with Tomograph Co., Ltd., under Sima Corporate. The 265-bed general hospital serves remote areas and has transformed into a Smart Hospital by integrating modern technology throughout its operations - from paperless transactions to smartphone-based data connectivity - aligning with its vision of being a hospital of happiness and service excellence. Dr. Choohong Mahantussanapong, Director of Prasat Hospital, shared recent screening statistics: "Out of 226 women screened, 22 were diagnosed with breast cancer - a 10% detection rate - with 9 cases already achieving complete recovery. These findings underscore the critical importance of regular screening, as early detection significantly improves recovery chances. Through private sector partnerships, our hospital now offers dedicated mammogram and breast ultrasound screening services with cutting-edge technology, making quality healthcare more accessible and efficient. We encourage all at-risk individuals to undergo breast cancer screening at the hospital for early prevention."

Fujifilm addresses these barriers through its comprehensive women's health solution 'INNOMUSE'. This innovative approach combines two essential screening technologies in one location: the AMULET Innovality digital mammogram system with its Comfort Comp function designed to minimize patient discomfort during examination, and the Arietta 65 ultrasound that can effectively detect abnormalities even in dense breast tissue. In Thailand, while mammography and ultrasound are both recognized as essential screening tools, access to this combined screening approach remains limited, especially in rural areas.
