TOKYO, March 8, 2023 – FUJIFILM Corporation (President and CEO, Representative Director: Teiichi Goto) announces the launch of the INSTAX smartphone app*1, “INSTAX UP!” in Japan today.
INSTAX UP! is a smartphone app that digitizes INSTAX prints taken with INSTAX cameras and smartphone printers. Users can scan INSTAX prints including frames on their smartphone and convert them into digital data that can be saved on the phone. INSTAX UP! can capture INSTAX prints’ signature soft touch faithfully and convert them into digital data with ease. A digitized print can be combined with a favorite background, using intuitive operations common for smartphone apps, to create a collection of very original INSTAX pictures. This app also makes it easy to view precious INSTAX prints on a smartphone anytime and anywhere, or post a created collection to social media directly from within the INSTAX UP! App for instantaneous sharing with friends, a new way of enjoying INSTAX prints.
INSTAX cameras are enjoyed not only for their ability to print a precious moment on the spot but also as a new communication tool or tool of self expression for conveying emotions that go with them.
More recently, more and more users are embracing new ways of enjoying INSTAX prints, such as creating a “photo in photo” taken by holding a photo print against the backdrop of a favorite scenery, and sharing it on social media.
INSTAX UP! can scan an INSTAX print along with its frames, which may contain a precious hand-written message or feature a variety of patterns. Users can look back on a memory-packed INSTAX print, only one in existence in the world, on their smartphone even after giving it as a gift to a friend or family.
The app makes it easy to create a “photo in photo” by combining a scanned INSTAX print with a favorite background, or compile a collection of original INSTAX prints, laid out freely to suit users’ artistic preference. Shake the smartphone while compiling a collection to enjoy visual and sound effects of automatic layout change, as if INSTAX prints were tossed around in a box. On the smartphone screen, users can treat the pictures as if they are physical INSTAX prints.
INSTAX prints and collections, created in INSTAX UP!, can be posted directly from the app to Instagram, LINE and other social media to be shared with friends and families with ease.
Fujifilm will continue to broaden the world of the INSTAX instant photo system, which can print photos immediately taken on the spot.

2. Main features
(1) Scanning and saving the INSTAX print including the frames
Users can scan INSTAX print including the frames, which may contain a hand-written message, and convert it into digital data easily. It supports mini, SQUARE and WIDE formats, reduces light reflections during scanning, provides ability to adjust contrast, brightness, vividness and color temperature, and allows users to register when and where the image was taken as well as keywords.
(2) Two View modes for creating an INSTAX print collection to be shared with friends
The app offers two View modes for laying out INSTAX prints, imported into the smartphone. Users can look back on precious INSTAX prints anytime and anywhere, and create a special INSTAX print collection that makes them want to share on social media with the intuitive smartphone-style operations.
① “Box View” mode
Box View mode shows INSTAX prints, imported into the smartphone, as if they are tossed into a box. Users can position layout position and background freely, giving them a sense of excitement to put together their original layout while producing an original INSTAX print collection. Shake the smartphone while compiling a collection to enjoy visual and sound effects of automatic layout change, as if INSTAX prints were tossed around in a box.
② “List View” mode
List View mode shows INSTAX prints at even distance in a list. Users can choose to show them in the order of shooting date, or narrow them down based on shooting location or keyword, creating a collection that makes each INSTAX print stand out.
(3) Easily sharing INSTAX prints, imported into a smartphone, on social media
INSTAX prints imported into a smartphone or INSTAX print collections created within the app can be posted on Instagram, LINE and other social media easily. Users can instantaneously share a “photo in photo” that incorporates a favorite background or an original collection put together with a special effort, further broadening the way INSTAX prints can be enjoyed. A collection can be exported to a suitable size to be used as a smartphone wallpaper or shared on social media.
(4) Working with dedicated apps for hybrid instant cameras and smartphone printers
INSTAX UP! can work with dedicated apps for the hybrid instant camera “INSTAX mini Evo” and the Link series of smartphone printers*2. The image of INSTAX prints, saved in these dedicated apps, can be transferred and gathered in INSTAX UP! to enjoy a variety of INSTAX print collections together.
(5) Receiving INSTAX-related latest information and information for using INSTAX prints
Fujifilm will periodically send to INSTAX UP! a variety of information including information on new products, how to take a good selfie, how to use INSTAX prints to add a spark to your home time and other information that helps users enjoy INSTAX life more.
3. Others
Promotional campaign for INSTAX UP!
Fujifilm will set up a dedicated web page for INSTAX UP!, where five creative personalities around the world showcase their INSTAX prints, reflecting their personal artistic flair. The app will be also promoted on various sales promotional materials for the instant camera “INSTAX mini 12,” to be released at the same time, as well as flyers contained in INSTAX camera / printer packages, individual INSTAX film packages, and in dedicated apps for existing products, showing all INSTAX users new ways of enjoying INSTAX prints.
