Remanufactured Machine

To reduce environmental impact through reuse and recycling technologies, we offer remanufactured machines as new devices that we guarantee the same quality as newly built machines.

  • A remanufactured product is created with the concept that "used products are valuable resources, not waste." For the ApeosPort-VII C R series*1*2, we evaluate whether to reuse the MFPs and components collected from customers based on each device's use history, adhering to predefined standards. Worn or consumed parts are replaced, while reusable parts are disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled. Each remanufactured unit undergoes the same inspection process as newly built machines, ensuring quality and reliability as a new product. By achieving a parts reuse rate (by weight) of up to 84%*3, we reduce CO2 emissions by 53%*4 over the entire product lifecycle (including procurement, manufacturing, transportation, use, and disposal) compared to newly built machines. This initiative supports resource recycling and addresses climate change.

The series utilizes Super EA-Eco toner, featuring one of the smallest toner particle sizes in the industry. It offers high-resolution output of 1,200 x 2,400 dpi and a fusing temperature approximately 10℃ lower than conventional toner, resulting in lower power consumption.

Smart WelcomEyes, which detects user presence to automatically exit sleep mode, combines "energy saving" with "ease of use." The "Instant Heating IH-Fuser"*5 enables recovery from sleep mode in less than 5 seconds, providing low power consumption while ensuring immediate availability when needed.

Additionally, the MFP supports various printing needs, including lightweight or heavyweight paper and long paper*6, while facilitating smooth digitization of paper documents and integration with solutions for diverse work styles. Enhanced value-added functionality helps customers improve business efficiency.

Compact and Lightweight Design

By designing products with the focus on miniaturization and weight reduction, we reduce the amount of resources used.

  • By designing MFPs and pritners to be as compact and lightweight as possible, we are working to reduce the amount of materials, energy, and other resources used in manufacturing and distribution.

With Apeos C320 z*1, reducing the number of parts and reviewing the design have resulted in a smaller main unit. Compared to the conventional model, the weight of the main unit has been reduced by approximately 30% and the volume by approximately 40%. Furthermore, we were able to reduce the transportation packaging materials by 40.8% by mass, and CO2 emissions associated with packaging material production by approximately 40%*2. As a result, the number of units that can be loaded in a shipping container has doubled*3, contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions during transportation.

With the release of the Apeos C3067 and Apeos C3061 series*4 in October 2024, we have achieved a reduction in body weight while maintaining strength by optimizing resin and sheet metal use through thinning technology and revising the frame structure. The total mass of the Apeos C2061 (Model-PFS-1T) is approximately 8.8% less*5 compared to the conventional Apeos C2060 (Model-PFS-1T). This also contributes to a reduction in CO2 emissions during logistics.

Use of Recycled Plastics

We use recycled plastics in our products with the aim of reducing new resource inputs.

  • We use recycled plastics in multifunction device parts, such as front doors and paper trays, to reduce the need for new resources. In the Apeos C3067 and Apeos C3061 series*1, released in October 2024, recycled plastics account for at least 15%*2 of the total device weight. We have addressed challenges in minimizing color inconsistencies in recycled plastic, which is often difficult to mold. Additionally, by improving the strength and rigidity of the parts, we ensure the overall quality of the product.

Product Design for Future Reuse and Recycling

With recycling in mind, we design products that are easy to disassemble, clean and sort.

  • To promote future recycling, the Apeos C3067 and Apeos C3061 series*1, released in October 2024, introduce new product design that facilitates easy disassembly, cleaning, and sorting, thanks to improvements in part shapes and configuration. The exterior covers are now designed to be removed as a single frame, rather than requiring individual removal for each functional unit. Additionally, the front cover is flat with fewer grooves, making it easier to clean.

Long Life Technology

We have developed a drum with an extended lifespan. The aim is to save resources by reducing the frequency of replacement as much as possible.

The long-life drum* uses a material that does not easily deteriorate due to wear.
This results in less frequent drum replacement, which not only saves resources but also realizes the added value of maximizing equipment uptime.

  • *:A drum is a component that creates a toner image by depositing toner on its surface, which corresponds to the original document.

Reuse of Toner Cartridges and Waste Toner Containers

We contribute to the promotion of resource recycling through efforts to reuse containers and parts such as used toner cartridges and waste toner containers.

Since the 1990s, we have been collecting and reusing containers and parts such as used toner cartridges and waste toner containers, and have contributed to the cumulative reduction of 36 kt*1 in new resource inputs. The usage rate of reused parts for toner cartridges in our main products in Japan is approximately 45% by volume*2, and the usage rate of reused parts for waste toner containers is approximately 55% by volume*2.
