FUJIFILM Business Innovation Hong Kong Announces Winners of “Design a Sustainable Future” Design Competition 2024
Ignite creativity for ESG in product marketing
HONG KONG, SEPTEMBER 4, 2024 – FUJIFILM Business Innovation Hong Kong (FUJIFILM BI HK) today announced the winners of the FUJIFILM BI Design Competition 2024. Entering its third year, the competition was opened to design students from local tertiary institutions, aiming to nurture young designers and provide a platform to showcase their talents. This year’s theme was “Design a Sustainable Future”, encouraging participants to envisage for sustainable designs that utilize FUJIFILM BI’s industry-first six-color print system, Revoria Press PC1120.
This year also marks the first time the competition is partnered with a beloved local brand. Through the collaboration with The Walnut Shop, participants were encouraged to translate their creativity into commercially viable product marketing designs. Participants are invited to compete in the “Product Poster Design” and “Product Packaging Design” categories to create sustainable designs for one of The Walnut Shop's designated products.

The winning design of “The Best Commercial Potential Award (Product Packaging Design)” goes to Chan Lok Yan Ada from HKU SPACE. Her packaging design for The Walnut Shop’s mooncakes will be realized as the special edition that is not for sale in this upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and used as festive greeting cards for distribution at stores and baking classes. Her design also earned her “The Best Innovation Award (Product Packaging Design)” and “The Best FUJIFILM BI Specialty Color Application Award (Product Packaging Design)”. On the other hand, the winner of “The Best Commercial Potential Award (Product Poster Design)” is Poon Ka Ying from PolyU Hong Kong Community College. This design will also be used as posters displayed across over 40 physical stores and social media platforms of The Walnut Shop. Moreover, “The Most Favorite Design (Cross Category)” was selected by FUJIFILM BI HK’s graphic communication expert team and awarded to Zhang Jiayi from the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. Impressed by her concept, FUJIFILM BI HK has a crossover with her key visual in this year’s corporate festive greeting design, which is promoted across online and offline promotional channels. This design also wins her “The Best Concept Award (Product Poster Design)”. (Please refer to the appendix for the list of winners.)
Mr. Calvin Chung, Section Head of Graphic Communication Services of FUJIFILM BI HK, representatives of supporting organizations and partners, and all student winners attended the award ceremony of FUJIFILM BI Design Competition 2024.
At the award ceremony today, FUJIFILM BI HK and the judging panel recognized and applauded the remarkable creativity exhibited by the participating students. This year’s judging panel includes Mr. Billy Lau, Second-generation Heir, and Mr. Benny Lau, Third-generation Heir of The Walnut Shop, Ms. Sam Lam, Director, Business Development and Projects of Hong Kong Design Centre, Mr. Leo Chan, College Lecturer and Programme Manager of HKU SPACE, Dr. Vera Sun of Senior Lecturer, Division of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Design of PolyU Hong Kong Community College, Ms. Joanna Lai, Programme Leader of HD in Creative Culture and Media Practice of Hong Kong Metropolitan University LiPACE, and Mr. Raphael Wong, Art Director of FUJIFILM BI HK. In addition to these organizations, the competition is also supported by Hong Kong Design Institute, Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, Polytrade Paper, and Ideastore.
The judging criteria include creativity and innovation, ESG and sustainability, concept, and relevance and feasibility, as well as creative technique and application of specialty colors using FUJIFILM BI's Revoria Press PC1120 digital printing system. This revolutionary system goes beyond the traditional CMYK 4-color model by offering additional specialty colors including Gold, Silver, Clear, White, and Neon Pink. This wider color palette empowers designers to unleash their creativity, showcasing their innovative ideas in a more sophisticated manner.
