Notice of the impact on FUJIFILM products and the response to the discontinuation of Basic authentication for SMTP authentication in Microsoft Exchange Online

Dear Customers,

Thank you very much for your continued use of our products.

Microsoft has announced that it will discontinue support for Basic authentication for SMTP authentication for its Exchange Online service after September 2025.

This may affect the ability of our products (MFPs/printers) to send e-mail.

As response to the above statement, be kindly informed of the impact on our products and workaround as follows.

Impact on our Products

If you have set up an Exchange Online email account and password for our product and are using the Exchange Online SMTP server (i.e., you have set "smtp.office365.com" as the SMTP server address), the email sending functions listed in the table below will not be available.

In such cases, the events listed in the "Description of Events" column will also occur.

Fax via internet
  • The device UI shows error with 027-779 (*1) or 016-781, and unsent report is output.
  • In addition, 027-779 or 016-781 (*1) is recorded as error in job records.
E-mail notification
Forward faxed data to specified e-mail address.
Read receipt/Delivery receipt.
Forward document stored in digital box to specified e-mail address in accordance with job flow
  • Error 027-779 or 016-781 (*1) is recorded in the error history.
    Note that this error is not displayed in the panel but can be confirmed on the display/report of error records in Internet Servers.
  • *1 027-779: Authentication failure with SMTP-AUTH, 016-781: Server connection error

In order to avoid those events, please check the "List of Affected Products" described below and take the measures described in the "Workaround" section.

Target Products

A list of affected products is posted at the end of this page. Please check the classification of each product and take the actions described in the "Workaround" section.

Workaround

Please refer to the "Workaround Type" column in the "List of Affected Products" and take either of the following actions type (1) or type (2) accordingly.

Type (1)

Please update each device to the firmware and change the settings after the update. For the release date of the firmware, please refer to the "Scheduled release date of the firmware" column in the "List of Affected Products".

Detailed setup procedures will be announced again on this page around June.

Update the firmware to the fixed version according to the above procedure and execute the OAuth2.0 authentication settings and authorization flow from Internet Services for each device.

Please review the following restrictions and notes.

Restrictions and precautions of the fixed version firmware

  1. Restriction: When using OAuth2.0 authentication for SMTP, an account (e-mail address) must be assigned to each device. It is also possible to share the same email account between multiple devices. E-mail sender (From:) sent from its device has e-mail address assigned to the device.
  2. If e-mail sender is changed, authentication error occurs when e-mail is sent.
  3. To prevent authentication error at e-mailing, please set 'Use Email Address of Logged-In User' to 'Disabled' and 'Edit "From" Field' to 'Disabled'.
  4. Additionally, if Login Credentials for Email Send has been set to "Remotely Authentication User", please change it to “System” before authentication for SMTP is implemented by OAuth2.0.

Type (2)

Please use an email service other than Exchange Online.
