FUJIFILM Business Innovation Established the Circular Manufacturing Center to Promote Resource Circulation in Europe

The operation starts with the collection and remanufacturing of toner cartridges

TOKYO, May 29, 2024 – FUJIFILM Business Innovation today announces the establishment of the Circular Manufacturing Center at FUJIFILM Manufacturing Europe B.V., in the Netherlands, to promote resource circulation in Europe. As a first step, the new manufacturing center collects used toner cartridges from printers and remanufactures new toner cartridges from June 2024.

Since 1995, FUJIFILM Business Innovation has been implementing a recycling policy, "Aiming for 'zero waste' and promoting resource circulation," which involves collecting, reusing, and recycling the consumed equipment and products from customers. FUJIFILM Business Innovation established a circular production system in 1995, which examines the entire product lifecycle from product planning, development, and manufacturing stages through to disposal. The company has been focusing on reducing the use of new resources and promoting resource circulation by reusing parts taken from collected used products. Additionally, the company is further accelerating the sales of digital colour multifunction printers in the European market starting in April 2024.

In the Circular Manufacturing Center, FUJIFILM Manufacturing Europe B.V. collects the used toner cartridges from printers sold in Europe. Those toner cartridges will be disassembled, cleaned, and inspected after collection, and then remanufactured as new toner cartridges for shipping in the European region. In the future, FUJIFILM Business Innovation plans to expand these remanufacturing processes to other products, such as remanufactured multifunction printers*1 and spare parts for the production printers.

Furthermore, FUJIFILM Manufacturing Europe B.V. supplies all of its electricity needs from on-site wind power generation and by wind power energy supppliers. Therefore, the newly established Circular Manufacturing Center can also achieve virtually zero CO2 emissions from the electricity it uses. In terms of transportation efficiency, FUJIFILM Manufacturing Europe B.V., has a history of more than 40 years of manufacturing various Fujifilm products, is located in the Netherlands, the center of Europe, and is well suited to promote resource recycling as it collects used products in Europe and sells them as new.

FUJIFILM Business Innovation has been aware of the importance of environmental conservation since its establishment and has been working to reduce the environmental impact of its corporate activities. With the opening of the Circular Manufacturing Center in Europe, FUJIFIM Business Innovation enhances its resource circulation activities and contributes to the promotion of the circular economy.

*1: It is remanufactured from used products, which are collected from customers. The products are disassembled, cleaned, and inspected, and any parts that do not meet a certain quality standard are replaced.
